(KMOV) – A glaze of ice from overnight freezing rain caused a multitude of wrecks throughout the St. Louis area on Monday.
According to officials, at least wrecks on a five-mile strech of Interstate 55 in the south St. Louis County area Monday morning.
Police say two people were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries after a three-vehicle wreck on northbound I-55 at Lindbergh. Several lanes of the interstate were closed while crews cleaned up the scene. All lanes were reopened by about 6:30 a.m.
Another car on I-55 also struck an emergency vehicle responding to the three-vehicle wreck. It was not immediately known if anyone was hurt.
Information on the other I-55 incidents was not released.
Later Monday morning, a semi-truck overturned on Interstate 44 near Rte. 141, closing one right late.
To the north, a wreck on the Interstate 70 westbound ramp from Interstate 170 caused a big backup.
Injuries were also reported after an accident on northbound I-170 near the Airport Rd. exit.
Several other wrecks also occurred on Interstate 270, though specifics were not immediately available.
Officials said the morning commute was not as busy as usual due to the President's Day holiday.
