(KMOV) -- A section of Interstate 64 will close Friday night as Missouri Department of Transportation crews begin tearing down several bridges to construct a new interchange.
Beginning at 8 p.m., all lanes and ramps of I-64 will be closed in both directions between Kingshighway Boulevard and Forest Park Avenue. Crews will be removing the Tower Grove and Boyle Avenues bridges as part of a project to remove a total of four bridges and construct a new interchange.
The closure will effect some drivers heading to downtown events such as The Missouri Valley Conference Championship at Scottrade and the St. Louis Home and Garden Show at the America's Center.
Drivers heading downtown this weekend will exit I-64 at Hampton Avenue and follow it to eastbound I-44. Drivers heading west of downtown will exit at Forest Park Avenue to Kingshighway Boulevard going south and follow Kinghighway back to I-64.
Crews are expected to reopen the interstate by 3 a.m. on Monday.
