(KMOV) – Residents in Dardenne Prairie have launched a campaign to stop developers from rezoning property in the area.

The dispute is over property near the intersection of Bryan Rd. and Feise Rd. on the western side of St. Charles County between O’Fallon and Lake St. Louis.

Hundreds of residents are involved in the creation of a Facebook page called “Preserve Dardenne Prairie,” along with an online petition.

An attorney for the family who owns a 175-acre chunk of land told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch the request to re-zone is just an attempt to make the land more marketable down the road..

So instead of only having the option to build single-family homes there, a potential developer could build multiple big box stores and apartment buildings.

A board of alderman meeting is being held Wednesday night and several residents say they plan to show up to voice their concerns.
