(KMOV) -- The numbers of safe deposit boxes that turn up missing or have the contents missing are low, but the fact that it happens regularily is surprising.
David McGuinn of Safe Deposit Specialists in Houston says he's heard of three cases in the past two weeks across the country. He says customers need to be careful. Renting a box is a lot like renting an apartment. What's inside is your responsibility; only the door and the locks are the bank's concern. Any case of missing contents falls on the customer to prove the institution was negligent in protecting the box, and that's not always easy.
