(KMOV) – Police responded to a St. Louis home Tuesday to check on a woman and found her body and her two young children inside.
The 36 year old woman, police say, appear to have died of natural causes. She had a medical condition and was being cared for by a medical doctor. The mother and kids, who are one and three years old, were the only ones who lived at the house on the 7100 block of Ellendale Place.
The children appear to have been in the house for at least two days after their mother passed away, said Captain William Swiderski. They were taken to a hospital for treatment of possible malnutrition and dehydration.
“That’s the concern, particularly with the one-year-old," said Swiderski. "There were signs inside the house that one of the kids, probably the three-year-old tried to get to some cereal and other food in the house".
Police say the father did come to the house after hearing what happened. The courts will decide who gets custody of the children.
