Hollywood to haul nearly 200 Illinois residents to court for illegally downloading films

 (KMOV) -- Almost 200 Illinois residents were tracked down and are now being hauled to court after they being caught illegally downloading movies online. 

Lawsuits were filed in central Illinois against 193 people for using the file sharing software Bit Torrant to download the Robert Redford film “The Company You Keep.”
 
The lawsuits don’t list the names of people, only the IP addresses of their computers.  
 
It’s estimated there are 20 million illegal downloads a day. 
 
Eric Aguado of Throttle-Net, in Crestwood says “if you’re going to participate in any peer to peer sharing, you’re going to utilize a bit torrant client you need to be extremely careful, Number one a large percentage of material in but torrant is illegal and is pirated, not all of it but you have to be very careful.”
 
The penalty for copyright infringement can run as high as a fine of $150,000.
