(KMOV) – Two Hillsdale police officers are accused of being paid hundreds of dollars to help a suspected drug dealer steal a quarter-pound of heroin in March.

Parrish Swanson, 40, and Raymond Stephens, 28, were each indicted by a federal grand jury on one count of conspiracy to distribute heroin and attempt to distribute heroin. They were arrested Monday morning.

According to court documents, an associate agreed to pay Swanson and Stephens for their help in robbing a drug courier. Deputies say Stephens was on duty March 20 when he approached the drug courier and stole about four ounces of suspected heroin.

Police say Stephens later met with the associated and gave him the drugs in exchange for $900 cash. Stephens then gave Swanson $200 per the officers’ agreement.

If convicted, they could spend up to 20 years in prison and be fined up to $1 million.
