(KMOV.com) -- A teacher and student were arrested after a fight at a high school in St. Louis on Thursday.

The incident happened at Gateway High School, located in the 5100 block of McRee Avenue.

Stephanie White, 16, said her teacher became upset when she wanted to leave and watch a movie in another classroom. White said the two began to argue, yelling and swearing at each other.

She said the male teacher then slapped her hand down and pushed her.

"[He] ran towards me and pushed me, really hard, towards another desk and I hit my backside," said White.

News 4's Chris Stanford asked the student whether she laid a hand on the teacher.

"No sir," she said. "I was in my seat and he approached me."

White was arrested after the incident. The teacher was arrested and placed on administrative leave. Both could face charges.

School officials said they reported the fight to police and the Missouri Division of Family Services for investigation.

Another student recorded the incident on a cell phone. The footage may help prosecutors determine charges.
