(KMOV) – Haz-mat crews responded to the scene of an anhydrous ammonium leak at a Metro East industrial facility on Monday.

Crews said a leak at the Polarville refrigerated storage facility at the National Stockyards near Fairmount City was caused due to compression issues.

Authorities say 12 firefighters responded to the scene and contained the leak inside the building with the help of the St. Clair County Haz-mat team. Officials hoped to have the leak fixed by Tuesday morning.

Two businesses were evacuated as a precaution. No residents were ever affected.
