ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV) -- There is a new way for Missouri residents to get their state income tax refund.

Instead of receiving a paper check or having their refund directly deposited into a bank, residents can now choose to get it on a debit card. You can select the new method by checking a box on your income tax form.

For those who do not have a bank account, the debit card will help them avoid check cashing fees. The card can be used to make purchases over the internet or in stores. Residents can also withdraw money from the card without a fee at UMB and Chase bank ATMs.

The Missouri Department of Revenue has more information about the debit cards on its website, or you can watch a YouTube video to see how it works.
