MARYVILLE, Mo. – Friends and family came together Friday night to honor the memory of an Oakville High School graduate and Northwest Missouri State student who was killed in an altercation at a bar early Friday morning.
Police were called to a bar in Maryville, Mo. Thursday night to break up a fight. A short time later, police say two men attacked 21-year-old Tomarken Smith.
Smith fell and hit his head, then died less than an hour later.
Kevin Mooney and Tony Overlin were both charged with second-degree murder and first-degree assault, both felonies.
Their bonds were set at $100,000.
Smith was a senior pre-professional studies major with a minor in coaching. He was a member of a fraternity, and worked as a fitness trainer.
Nick Shore played football with Smith at Oakville High School. He said Smith was both a "friend and a brother" to him.
"He was a guy that had a smile that would light up a whole room," Shore said.
