(KMOV) – Parents in the Francis Howell School District will take their concerns over a sex education book to the school board Thursday night.

The book in question is “It’s Perfectly Normal: Changing Bodies, Growing Up, Sex and Sexual Health.”

Some parents of students at Barnwell Middle School contend the book contains naked images of adults and teens engaged in sexual acts and is inappropriate for their kids.

They’ll voice their concerns at the Francis Howell School Board meeting.

Concerned parents at first brought their issues with the book to school officials, who determined the book would stay. That’s when they started a petition, which has almost 600 signatures.

District officials say as it stands, kids can still access the book in the library if they want to without parental consent. That is unless their parents have specifically requested the school to limit that access.

The issue is not on the official agenda for Thursday’s meeting, though News 4 has been told the school board will likely be meeting to officially discuss it sometime soon.
