(KMOV) – The former local manager of a company that operates parking garages at St. Mary’s Hospital in Richmond Heights is accused of stealing nearly $16,000 while on the job.

John Hartman, 49, was charged with felony stealing over $500.

According to court documents, Hartman was working for the company when he stole about $15,873 between Nov. 1, 2012 and Feb. 28.

Authorities said Hartman was responsible for collecting the cash receipts from the garages, depositing the money into the company’s bank account and faxing the paperwork to its corporate offices in Florida.

The company eventually launched an internal investigation and realized Hartman had stolen the money by keeping the deposits for himself and telling his employers the garage had been closed on certain days they were open.

Hartman was later arrested and admitted to stealing from the company to fund “a serious gambling binge.”

His bond was set at $10,000.
