(KMOV) -- Maryland Heights police used undercover officers to arrest a group of men, including a former assistant principal at Parkway West High School, after several complaints of men engaging in public sex acts.

Eddie Terrence Martinez or Terry Martinez as he is known in the Parkway School district community was arrested June 4t at 11:00 a.m. after police say he exposed himself to an undercover male officer at Creve Coeur Park.

“It’s very surprising to me, I never thought he would do something like that.  It’s very shocking. You just don’t believe it until you hear it,” said Kevin Meyers, a former Parkway West Student.

Martinez is charged with Indecent Exposure and the case is in Maryland Heights Municipal Court.

Parkway said after learning of the arrest they placed Martinez on leave and he then resigned.  Martinez has also worked at Ritenour, O’Fallon Township High School and St. Charles West High School.

“In this type of environment you can’t have stuff like that,” said former Parkway West student Lorenzo Knox.  “You’re working with kids”.

Parkway officials say Martinez passed an extensive background check that went through the Missouri Highway Patrol and the FBI before he was hired in 2010.  Martinez was about to start a new role in the district next school year as the Fine Arts Curriculum Coordinator.

Parkway sent a letter to parents Monday with some of the details of the arrest, but they did not name Martinez.

Martinez would not make himself available to comment on this story.
