O’FALLON, Mo. (KMOV) – A local man who played semi-professional baseball for the Gateway Grizzlies and was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in 2006 was found dead over the weekend in St. Charles.

O’Fallon resident Kent Gerst, 24, was first reported missing early Sunday evening. He had last been seen Saturday near the intersection of West Terra Lane and Peruque Crossing Court around 10:15 p.m.

Authorities searched the area for Gerst and found his body under the Peruque Creek Bridge around 10:40 p.m.

The medical examiner said an autopsy would be performed to determine the exact cause of death.

Gerst, who played outfielder for the Grizzlies in 2011, attended Fort Zumwalt South High School.
