(KMOV) – A former Velda City police officer has been indicted on charges he beat two kids and an adult with a baton during a 2008 encounter.
Stan Stanback, 47, was charged with three counts of using unreasonable force and one count of making false statements.
According to the indictment, Stanback was approached by three children and an adult in the parking lot of the Velda City Police Department on Sept. 17, 2008 when the alleged assault occurred.
The indictment also alleges he intentionally lied to FBI agents, telling them initially he was surrounding by 15 men and was forced to draw his gun. Authorities say he never had to take out his firearm.
If convicted, Stanback could spend up to 35 years in prison.
