ST. LOUIS (KMOV) – Former Missouri Governor Bob Holden says a man stole his money while he was walking on Washington Ave. in downtown St. Louis on Wednesday.

According to officials, Holden had just walked out of the Dubliner in the 1000 block of Washington when a man holding a gas can approached him and asked for gas money.

Officials said Holden then got out his money clip to give the man some cash. That’s when the suspect grabbed the money clip and ran from the scene.

St. Louis police say no arrest has been made. It’s not known how much cash the thief took.

Holden, a Democrat, served as governor from 2001 to 2005. He now teaches political science classes at Webster University.

Associated Press contributed to this report.
