St. Louis, Mo. (KMOV) -- Donations of about $2 million are in place to renovate three restrooms, add year-round drinking fountains and overhaul road and path signage at Forest Park.
The planned renovations will make the restrooms heated and open year-round, the drinking fountains will also be made year-round with some of them containing bottle filler water streams and a lower fountain for animals to use. The renovations will also double the number of signs throughout the park, bringing the total to 239.
The new renovations were voted on by hundreds of people through online surveys and open houses.
All of the signs, restrooms and fountains will be complete by the end of the year.
In the coming years, the park also plans to install “gathering plazas” which will include bike racks and better connections to the bike paths.
Forest Park has roughly 13 million visitors a year.
The nonprofit Forest Park Forever raised the money for the improvements.
