A Florissant man is facing a “chronic offender” charge for driving drunk after he was pulled over for a third DWI 16 months ago.
But the charges were just recently filed against 45-year-old Donald Watson.
St. Louis County prosecutor Bob McCulloch says it is unusual for it to take so long, but says the volume of cases his office was handling caused the delay.
Police say an officer followed Watson to his home after noticing him speeding and weaving on the road.
“The driver immediately began talking about how he was in his driveway just let him go home, he made it home, just let him get inside, the smell of alcohol was on his breath his eyes were glazy,” said Officer Andy Haarmann with the Florissant Police Dept.
McCulloch says his office tries to stay on top of repeated DWI offender cases because they present an extra hazard to the public.
