(KMOV) – Several fire departments were called to the scene of a massive fire that destroyed a home near Imperial, Missouri in Jefferson County.
The flames broke out around 5:00 a.m. Thursday in the 3500 block of Rock Creek Gardens Road near Sunny Creek Road.
A house and a vehicle were engulfed in flames. The house burned down to its foundation.
A family was inside at the time of the fire. Everyone was able to get out safely, but fire officials tell News 4 that the family dog died in the blaze.
It took firefighters several hours to get this fire under control. Firefighters were able to keep the flames from spreading to the woods surrounding the home.
Fire crews had an especially difficult time fighting these flames because they couldn't get the fire engines close to the house and their were no hydrants nearby. Instead, firefighters had to pump water into smaller water tanks then fill tanker trucks to take the water about a half mile up the road to those fighting the fire.  .
No word yet on what caused the fire.
