(KMOV) – Five people have been arrested in St. Louis for a nationwide identity theft ring.

Police say the gang depended on car break-ins to get drivers licenses, checkbooks and credit cards. The ring started in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, but the five thieves ended up ripping people off in Clayton, Maryland Heights and Webster Groves.

Tara Funk, Brandon Taylor, Steven Black, Jearvon Jackson, and Kevin Robinson have all been arrested for their role in the thefts.  All are from Florida.

A teller at the Bank of America in Maryland Heights realized a check was stolen and alerted police. After a short police chase, three of the suspects were caught. The other two were found in a St. Charles Hotel.

Court records show that when they were busted, the thieves had more than $5000 in cash, dozens of credit and debit cards, checks and personal information about the owners.

When one suspect was arrested, police found $1500 tied around his private area.
