POTOSI, Mo. (KMOV) – The chief of the Potosi Fire Department was seriously injured when the tanker truck he was driving overturned Monday afternoon.

Potosi Fire Chief, Richard Knight, 51, was en route to a report of a  rekindled fire at 4:15 p.m., when his truck lost control along Route 47 at Toby Meadows Lane.

According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, Knight attempted to gain control as his tanker truck veered off the roadway. This caused the truck to flip, partially ejecting Knight.

It is not clear if the icy conditions played a role in the wreck at this time. Troopers say the shifting weight of water inside the tanker may have been a contributing factor.

Knight was rushed to St. Anthony's Hospital in St. Louis where he is still listed in serious condition.
