DES PERES (KMOV.com) - The fight over a million dollar project along a creek is heading to court.
The Metropolitan Sewer District wants to install cement blocks along the bank of Two Mile Creek to stop erosion along a 2,000 feet stretch of the creek. Neighbors are divided over whether the project is necessary.
Someresidents say only a handful of backyards that run along creek are suffering from erosion and they complain the wall will create a haven for mosquitoes.
The Great Rivers Environmental Law Center filed a lawsuit on Wednesday against MSD and the Army Corps of Engineers.
“The project that MSD proposed and got a permit for is not the project now that they're going ahead and constructing,” said Adam Fields with the Great Rivers Environmental Center. “Originally it was going to be block wall and they discussed putting plants and grasses in these blocks and now they're filling it with rocks...so just as far as the project they proposed has changed."
MSD says it has not seen the lawsuit and will not comment on any pending litigation.
