ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – St. Louis County Police tell News 4 that shots were fired at authorities on Sunday night.

St. Louis County Police Information Officer Brian Schellman spoke with News 4 during live coverage of the unrest.

According to Schellman, there were at least three areas along W. Florissant where shots were reported, prompting a strong reaction from police. Police said earlier in the evening, Molotov Cocktails were fired at them.

“Police officers really screaming on the radio at times that shots were being fired in their direction,” said Schellman.

At one point, Schellman said as many as 1,000 protesters were advancing toward the area where the police command center is located. Riot police managed to stop the progress of the crowd.

“To say the least it is hectic, it’s chaotic, it’s stressful, it’s scary for everybody involved not only for the police but for the actual peaceful protesters. It only takes a rogue few and unfortunately tonight it seems like there is more than just a few,” said Schellman.
