(KMOV.com) -- Three people were able to make it out of a house fire that engulfed two floors of a Walnut Park West home Sunday morning.

St. Louis Firefighters said the fire started in the basement and then extended to the first floor of a home in the 5900 block of Theodore around 10 a.m.Crews also said the home suffered moderate damage which resulted in the family to be displaced.

Firefighters said smoke detectors alerted three adults who got out of the house uinjuried before firefighters arrived.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
