ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – Almost 10 percent of households in the metro area do not use a bank of any form.
According to the FDIC, 9.7 percent of households are unbanked. That number is even higher for African-American households.
FDIC figures show that 31 percent of African-American households do not use a bank. The metro area numbers are the third highest total in the country.
The FDIC says the numbers show a large opportunity for banks to expand their business to those who do not currently use banks.
