Excessive Heat Warning issued for St. Louis area until Sunday

ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – Starting Wednesday at 1 p.m. the News 4 viewing area will be under an Excessive Heat Warning until 7 p.m. Sunday night.

Temperatures through Sunday are expected to reach highs in 90s, with a heat index near 107 degrees.

An Excessive Heat Warning is issued when there is a heat index of at least 105 for more than three hours per day for consecutive days, or there is a heat index of more than 115.  

The National Weather Service in St. Louis is urging residents to take precautions if they will have prolonged exposure outside. They warn residents to stay well hydrated and use the buddy system to monitor a partner for symptoms of heat illnesses throughout the warning.
