ST. LOUIS (AP) -- A former St. Louis liquor control agent has been indicted for allegedly trying to bribe an applicant for a liquor license.
Federal prosecutors said Thursday that 41-year-old James Allen Morgan met with the applicant last year and suggested that the applicant hire him to manage the new bar at a salary of $60,000 plus a $10,000 signing bonus.
In return, the indictment alleges, Morgan promised he could guarantee a liquor license. The U.S. Attorney's office says that when the liquor license was granted in December, Morgan agreed to accept $1,000 in cash from the applicant as a reward.
Morgan did not have a listed phone number and it wasn't clear if he had an attorney. A spokeswoman for the city says Morgan resigned from his job in March.
