BRENTWOOD, Mo. (KMOV.com) – Motorists will likely encounter congestion issues on southbound Brentwood Boulevard Friday evening due water pipe repair efforts, officials say.

The heaviest traffic will be south of Intersate 64 and north of Manchester Road.

One of the road’s three southbound lanes is closed due to ruptured water main beneath the lane.

“The repair work began at 11:30 this morning, and will take anywhere from four to six hours to complete,” noted David Wrone, public information manager for St. Louis County’s Department of Highways and Traffic. “Southbound motorists should avoid this area if at all possible during early evening rush hour.”

The broken water main created substantial headaches during Friday’s morning rush, with northbound Brentwood Boulevard motorists balking at the sight of water gushing from the road and flowing into their driving lanes.

Consequently, backed up traffic spilled onto Manchester Road as drivers jockeyed to avoid the perceived hazard.
This section of Brentwood carries a very large volume of traffic – between 34,000 and 35,000 vehicles a day.

“This is without question one of our busiest roads,” Wrone said.
