(KMOV.com) - Employees of Totall Metal Recycling will not return to work right away out of safety concerns after two people were killed Monday morning.
Granite City police said they will not give the company the ‘all clear’ signal until they are certain anything potentially dangerous is removed.
Monday morning, two people were killed when live ammunition rounds went off at the plant located in the 2700 block of Missouri Avenue. The bomb squad was called to the plant to assist with the investigation.
A portion of Missouri Avenue was closed during the investigation and a no-fly zone was issued above the plant.
News 4 was at the plant when authorities removed items to an undisclosed location where they will be destroyed.
Investigators will return to the plant Tuesday.
