(KMOV) – Some residents of East St. Louis could be stuck inside their homes for an extended period of time after high flood waters crest their front steps.
The residents who can make it out of their homes are just getting stuck later while driving through the high water.
Others who were forced out of their flooded homes at 25th and Douglas are receiving food and shelter via the Red Cross Thursday night.
Those residents are urging city officials to be on top of their game and to do more.
This is not the first time Michelle Johnson has dealt with flooding, "I mean the first time they pumped it, they got the water right out but then it just floods right back up, but never like this."
"It is so frustrating. What do we need to do? Who do we need to go to, to fix this damn here, who? Johnson asked.
Frustrated residents want a more permanent solution. They believe pumping is just not enough.
