East St. Louis rated country's most dangerous city

(KMOV) – East St. Louis is the most dangerous city in the United States, according to research done by neighborhoodscout.com.

The website ranked the country’s 100 most dangerous cities with at least 25,000 people based on the number of violent crimes per 1,000 residents. The ranking was based on 2012 statistics from the U.S. Census Bureau.

Violent crimes include homicide, forcible rape, armed robbery, and aggravated assault.

According to neighborhoodscout.com, one out of 20 people in East St. Louis are victims of violent crime on average. When including property crimes, the chance of someone becoming a victim is one in nine.

The website’s analysis also found the city has one of the higher murder rates in the country, regardless of size and population.

East St. Louis has a population of just over 27,000.
