BRIDGETON, Mo. -- The Environmental Protection Agency continues testing at a suburban St. Louis landfill where radioactive waste is buried.

Meanwhile, the EPA told KMOX Radio that it is watching what happens at the Bridgeton Landfill that sits next to the radioactive waste. Underground smoldering at the Bridgeton Landfill is causing an odor problem in that area of St. Louis County.

EPA Region 7 Administrator Karl Brooks says EPA is checking groundwater at the West Lake Landfill, and is working with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources on air monitoring to make sure there is no public health risk.

More protests are planned at West Lake, with protesters saying Wednesday marks the 40th anniversary of the first radioactive waste being delivered there.
