BELLEVILLE, Illinois (KMOV) -- Two power poles in Belleville, Illinois were getting replaced on Thursday after a driver hit one pole and caused another to topple over near an elementary school.
Police said the driver was dropping her two kids off at Union Elementary School around 8 a.m. when she lost control, left the roadway and struck an electrical pole, snapping it at the base.
When the pole fell, it pulled on the power lines, causing another pole to fall.
The downed power poles and the power lines blocked a neighborhood roadway, but traffic in and out of the nearby school was not affected.
Ameren crews quickly responded to the scene to turn off the power. Crews brought new power poles to the scene and replaced the damaged ones.
The school never lost power but some area homes did. All power has since been turned back on.
