ST. LOUIS—A busy area of downtown St. Louis will close during weeknights starting Monday as part of the next phase to improve the area around the Gateway Arch.
The Missouri Department of Transportation says the Walnut Street Bridge over Interstate 70 will be closed between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. as crews start work on the “Park over the Highway” project.
Several lanes of Memorial Drive will also be closed during that time.
It’s part of a project to create a parkway over Interstate 70 and improve access between the Arch area and the rest of downtown. The multi-million dollar project is expected to be complete in 2015. Next April, crews will remove and widen the bridge.
The goal is to improve access between downtown and the interstate.
