CARBONDALE, Ill.— New autopsy findings are casting doubt on what caused the death of a Southern Illinois University Student whose body was found in a wooded area near the school in Feb.
The body of 19-year-old Pravin Varughese was found nearly a week after he went missing following a dispute with an acquaintance after accepting a ride. Varughese’s sister at the time said her brother, a cousin and a roommate were at a party the night he disappeared.
The initial cause of death was listed as hypothermia. But the family asked for an independent autopsy, and results say Varughese had significant trauma to his face and head.
The Jackson County state’s attorney office is reviewing the case.
