(KMOV)-- A developmentally disabled boy was found wandering at a busy intersection in Alton.

According to the Alton police chief, the 6 or 7 year old boy left his home after his uncle left for work early Tuesday morning. A couple of good Samaritans found the boy wandering at College and Johnson and secured him until police arrived.

Authorities said the boy is non-verbal, so it took them an hour to find the boys residence.

The boy's aunt is his guardian. She was hysterical but happy to have him back home.

The case has been turned over to the Department of Family Services.

Authorities said this is not the first time the boy has gotten out of the house.
