(KMOV) – St. Clair County is at odds with its deputies, and this weekend, more than a dozen patrolmen will be out of a job.
They claim that as a result of their job losses, your safety could be at stake.
Captain Steve Johnson of the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department says that if you happen to be a victim of a property crime, you’ll have to do your own police work. For example, if your house was broken into or your vehicle was burglarized, you’ll have to download a report and mail it to police yourself.
Some say that this means residents could see a spike in crime.
“They know we're not going to be out there; they're not going to see us, and they know it's going to take us longer to get there,” says Deputy Patrick York of the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department.
