WASHINGTON, D.C. (KMOV.com) -- Another ominous deadline is looming in Washington, D.C. and massive budget cuts will go into effect March 1 if a compromise can’t be reached.

The cuts will hit the Defense Department especially hard because it could see $46 billion in cuts.

Defense Secretary Leon Panetta estimates 800,000 civilian military employees could be furloughed.

Scott Air Force Base has already seen layoffs and more could follow.

Illinois congressman Bill Enyart said significant job loss of any kind is unacceptable.
