(KMOV) – Authorities say a former Collinsville soccer coach was found dead in his Maryville, Ill. home on Tuesday.

Police say officers went to 49-year-old Ron Rowden’s home in the 900 block of Andra around 4:11 p.m. after getting a call he was suicidal.

That’s when they found him dead in a bathroom with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Collinsville police told News 4 they had been investigating whether Rowden had an improper relationship with a student after being contacted by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services last week. He was a physical education teacher at the high school.

Police say they have since closed the case due to his death.

Rowden coached the Collinsville boys’ soccer team from 1989 to 2000, winning a pair of state championships. He was the Collinsville girls soccer team coach from 2007 to 2011.
