HIGHLAND - An 18-year-old Pocahontas woman who died earlier this month at a Highland hospital was found to have the H1N1 influenza virus, making her death the second in Madison County this year to be linked to the illness.

Brooke L. Williams, 18, of the 400 block of Robinson Cemetery Avenue, went into cardiac arrest and died at 9:28 p.m. on Nov. 5 in the emergency room at St. Joseph's Hospital in Highland, Madison County Coroner Stephen P. Nonn said.

Nonn said family members reported that Williams had been complaining of a headache, backache and muscle weakness, plus she was vomiting. He said she was seen at Greenville Regional Hospital earlier in the day; however, an initial test determined Williams was negative for the H1N1 flu virus.

Williams was prescribed Tamiflu but was unable to take the anti-viral medication because of her nausea, Nonn said.
