Damaging storm forces area schools to postpone graduation ceremonies

 (KMOV) -- Friday night's storms left a path of destruction in its wake damaging buildings and knocking out power to local schools and arenas. 

The St. Charles Family Arena suffered structual damage, forcing Francis Howell School officials to postpone the district's commencement ceremonies on June 1. 

The District's superintendent sent out a release stating the high school graduations are canceled for Saturday and officials are working to find an alternate location for the ceremonies.

Superintendent Dr. Pam Sloan said some of the district's school buildings did sustain damage from the reported tornado and storm.  

The Hazelwood School District has moved their three ceremonies after the University of Missouri - St. Louis lost power. Those ceremonies will take place Sunday June 2. 

Hazelwood East High School ceremonies begin at 10:00 a.m. Hazelwood West High School will begin at 2:30 p.m. Hazelwood Central High School will begin at 7:00 p.m. at UMSL.

Also, the Shriners Circus performances to held at Belle Clair Fairgrounds, Belleville, Illinois have been cancelled for Saturday and Sunday due to weather and field condidtions.
