TROY, Ill. (KMOV.com) – The Madison County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a pair of suspicious fires in rural Troy early Sunday morning.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office and the Troy Fire Department responded just after 1 a.m. to the intersection of Lebanon and South Liberty.

Officials say a passing motorist reported two pieces of heavy construction equipment on fire.

Upon arrival, firefighters found the interior cabs of a back hoe and excavator engulfed in flames.

Investigators said the equipment is owned by a private construction company contracted by Madison County to make improvements on Lebanon Road.

Officials said the fire caused damages in excess of $300,000 in damages.

Authorities said the fires were suspicious and the investigation is ongoing.
