NORTH ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -- A unit in a two-family flat caught fire just before 12:45 p.m. Saturday and spread to a neighboring building.
St. Louis City Fire Department says the unit on the 4700 block of McMillan suffered extensive damage and when they arrive the fire had already spread. The neighboring building sustained minor damage.
The fire in the two-family flat was contained to the first floor. Two adults were in the unit at the time of the fire and escaped without injury. However, they will not be able to return to their home and are being assisted by the Red Cross.
The residents in the neighboring building and the other unit in the flat will be able to return to their homes.
Fire Officials say both units had working smoke detectors and they are still working to determine a cause.
