CHESTERFIELD (KMOV.com) – Construction of a new Boone Bridge span is set to start later this month.
Crews will tear down the older span of the Highway 40/Interstate 64 bridge and replace with a new one with the hopes of easing traffic. That span, which carries westbound traffic, has three narrow lanes and no shoulder.
The new span will have four lanes and room for shoulders. When the bridge is complete it will carry eastbound traffic across the Missouri River. The 23-year-old overpass that currently carries eastbound traffic will be used by westbound vehicles. The project is set to be finished at the end of 2015.
Drivers will notice the construction but the contractor hired by MODOT has been asked to keep lanes open during rush hour. Lanes are only expected to be closed at off-peak times foe demolition and to move in heavier materials.
