(KMOV) -- The civil trial is now underway for the Illinois state trooper who killed two sisters from Collinsville in a head-on crash.

The parents of Jessica and Kelli Uhl are suing Matt Mitchell and the state of Illinois in connection with the deadly 2007 crash along Interstate 64.

On Friday, Matt Mitchell pleaded guilty to two counts of reckless homicide in the criminal case against him. He was sentenced to 10 years probation and won't serve time in prison.

In testimony on Monday, Mitchell refused to admit to the same conduct he pleaded guilty to on Friday and says he only entered a guilty plea to avoid going to prison.
