ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) - The City of St. Louis is working to move the homeless out of a part of downtown.
City officials are trying to move the homeless who frequent the sidewalk at 15th and Locust Street, an area that has become a gathering place for them. People who live nearby have repeatedly complained about the unsanitary conditions, drinking and drug use, and altercations.
Longtime advocate for the homeless Rev. Larry Rice disagrees with the move, wondering where else the homeless will go citing concerns over recent violence. Rice also believes moving the homeless off the public sidewalks will cause more problems and perhaps lead to more violence.
Starting on Wednesday the Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Health was out on the streets to provide alternative services, food, and shelter to the homeless.
