(KMOV) -- October is breast cancer awareness month, and the Better Business Bureau (BBB) warns those who give to charities that some of the charities could be cashing in on your good will.
The Breast Cancer Society is one of the largest breast cancer charities in the country. It received more than $48 million last year. However, the BBB says less than a nickel of every dollar donated actually goes to cancer patients or their families.
The BBB says when donating to a charity it is wise to ask how much of your contribution goes to the charity and how much is retained by the fundraiser. Charities can be checked out through BBB’s “Wise Giving Alliance” online.
