FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, Il. (KMOV) -- The St Clair County State's Attorney's Office confirms that Illinois State Police are requesting charges against the driver in the crash that killed one construction worker on I-64 in May of this year.

Brendan Kelly tells News 4 his office is now taking the request under advisement and will make a decision later this week.

Lab tests on the driver, identified by police as 34-year-old Michael Jeter of West Frankfort, IL have taken months since the crash on eastbound 64 in Fairview Heights.

Police say 38-year-old Dennis Beard was killed and three other workers were injured as a car struck a construction vehicle.

Witnesses told News 4 they saw the driver weaving and driving in the left shoulder lane moments before the crash.
