(KMOV) – Two firms that handle emergency fire calls in St. Louis County are going out of business, forcing departments into changes that have some local fire chiefs concerned.

The North Central Dispatch is telling fire departments in north St. Louis they will shut down operations in October.

South County Dispatch has also already informed departments in South County they will stop on July 1.

Emergency calls for those departments will be taken over by Central Dispatch, a firm based in Ellisville.

The closure will affect close to 30 jobs.   An official at Central Dispatch says some of them will be rehired in their expansion to serve more fire departments.

The switch over to Central Dispatch is expected to offer departments upgrades such as GPS units and computers for dispatching fire trucks.
